The collection begins where an international luxury brand runs a full-service resort. Houses a class above the luxury norm are recorded in Fashion Resorts; brands that call themselves lifestyle are recorded in Luxury Lifestyle Resorts.
The Collections
6 ways into the register- Grand International Resorts204The backbone of the collection and of the industry: Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental, St. Regis, Ritz-Carlton, Raffles, Park Hyatt, Waldorf Astoria, Anantara. Houses built new, to a standard written elsewhere and delivered identically in a Maldivian atoll and an Alpine valley. The interest is not the badge but the logistics behind it — what it takes to run four kitchens and a dive school on an island where everything arrives by boat.
- Heritage & Grand Resorts48Palace hotels and seaside institutions whose departments grew over generations rather than opening complete on day one. Villa d'Este, Splendido, Badrutt's Palace, Tremezzo. They were the international standard before the international brands existed, and most still run to a season rather than a calendar. Completeness here is inherited and maintained, which is a different achievement from completeness designed.
- Reserve & Ultra-Luxury Resorts17The smaller, higher-touch expressions of the major groups, where the ratio of staff to guests does the work that scale does elsewhere. One&Only, the private-island Four Seasons, the houses let whole. A thin department is harder to hide here and easier to forgive: forty keys with a single kitchen can still be complete if the kitchen never closes.
- Mountain Luxury Resorts11Full-service brand resorts in the mountains — chiefly North America, Japan and the Alps outside the legendary villages. The test is the same and the season is the complication: a house that runs its full infrastructure in February and closes it in June is recorded as seasonal, and the card says which weeks it means. Where the village itself is the reason to come, the address is recorded by Legendary Addresses instead.
- Experiential, Desert & Wellness Resorts7Where the whole luxury infrastructure is organised around a landscape or a programme — AlUla, Liwa, the desert reserves, the brand houses built around an expedition. The shelf is deliberately hard to enter: a retreat whose programme is the reason to come belongs to Wellness Resorts, and a lodge built around the landscape beyond it to Adventure & Nature. Recorded here are the houses that do both, and run a full resort while they do.
- Urban & City Resorts4A deliberately small shelf: city houses that genuinely behave like resorts, with the water, the grounds and the departments a resort needs. Most city hotels are not resorts and are not recorded here at all; the House holds the hotel layer separately, and a house whose name cannot travel beyond its own address belongs to it rather than to this register.
