Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort

The family half of a shared lagoon: three pools, a kids' club and access to seven kitchens across two islands.

Editorial entry · sources recorded · property confirmation pending

Anantara Dhigu stands on Dhigufinolhu in the South Malé Atoll, thirty-five minutes by speedboat from the airport, and it is one of three houses in a single lagoon — Anantara Veli and Naladhu are the others, and a guest of one may eat on the others. The resort runs about 110 beach and overwater villas, most with a pool, and a bicycle for each. Dhigu is the family island of the three: the Dhoni Kids' Club takes children from three, the beaches are wide and shallow, and sports run to volleyball, basketball and the watersports the lagoon allows. Sources differ on the club's upper age — eleven in one listing, twelve in another — and the register carries both rather than choosing.

The completeness of this record is jointly held, and that is the honest way to read it. On Dhigu itself are Fushi Café for the all-day buffet, Aqua for Italian, Sea.Fire.Salt for the grill and the Gulhifushi picnic island for lunch; a short walk or dhoni away on Veli are Cumin, Baan Huraa, Origami and the adults-only Dhoni Bar, and adults from Dhigu may use all of them. Counting only its own ground, the resort has three kitchens; counting the lagoon it shares, it has seven. There is an overwater spa, a gym, a dive and watersports operation and surf guiding to breaks that carry the resort's own names. A register that asks about completeness has to say which of the two counts it means, and this one means both, in that order.

Three kitchens of its own, seven across the lagoon. The department a guest actually uses is larger than the one the island pays for, and the arrangement is the product rather than a workaround.

The family island of a trio. Dhigu carries the children for all three houses: a club from age three, family villas with two bedrooms, and the shallow water that makes those things usable.

Who it is not for

Dhigu is wrong for guests who want quiet: it is the family island of the three, and it is busy by design. It is wrong for anyone who wants a resort that is complete on its own ground — half of what a guest uses here stands on a neighbouring island, and that is the arrangement rather than a shortfall. And it is wrong for those seeking an authored house a class above the local luxury norm, which is Fashion Resorts' question. For the lagoon shared between three houses, read Private Resorts.
